TIME TRAVEL

The best thing about group fitness is the group coffee afterwards. It takes a lot of willpower to bypass the gooey dark chocolate and blueberry muffins when you are ordering your coffee and today it was made all the more easier as my eyes were being entertained by the amazing décor which dressed the inside of this unassuming coffee warehouse. I could have spent all day inside of this wonderful space sipping coffee, thumbing through time aged books, turning over delicate pieces of crockery, opening retro containers and cosying myself on the reminiscent arm chairs at the back of the warehouse.

SUNDAY

Everyone looked fresh as they walked through the doors today. Something about a sunny and windy winters day that makes everyone look so crisp and bright eyed. Perhaps it's just the relief that naturally exudes when you find solace away from the wind and find yourself inside a warm and cosy space. I enjoyed watching them come in through the door. Today the boys kicked the footy out the front while Vinnie and I sat and watched and talked and laughed.

LET THE HOLIDAYS BEGIN

What better way to start the school holidays than with a Birthday Party. We spent most of today celebrating with little superheroes who were literally bouncing off the walls. The best part of it was returning home with a very tired little boy and a sleepy little girl.

AFTER SCHOOL

Wintery afternoons have been filled with lots of sunshine and lately we have been ditching the after school homework routine for a play in the park instead, and today it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of term.

WEEKDAY AFTERNOONS

Our home was still and dozing in the afternoon sun until the keys shake open the front doors. His bag is thumped onto the floor, he peels off his school shoes and socks and leaves them trickling at his bedroom door, homework is slammed onto the dining table and his lunchbox slapped onto the kitchen bench. He curls himself up into the elbow of our lounge and brings Rocco up close so that he can watch him play on the ipad. Through the afternoon sunbeams I watch the speckles of dust and fluff float up and then settle around him as he comfy's himself back into the peaceful disposition of home.

COFFEE AND SLEEP

Now she sleeps soundly.

Earlier we held our conversation over her loud cries as I calmly tried everything to settle my girl. I rocked, cradled, cooed and fed my baby girl, over and over again. My friend tried to settle her too. Her square little face strained and turned red as she protested even more. We chatted and talked for as long as it became obvious that Vinnie was not going to settle to sleep. We called it a day and we made our way through her house and back out to my car. Saying our goodbyes through her protesting cries at the driveway. I start the car and her crying stops as we drive away. We arrive home and I gently unbuckle her from the car seat and carefully bundle her up to our blue doors. The blankets in her bassinette were still unravelled from her waking up earlier this morning. I tucked her back into them and watched her relax into her little space.

WE RAN AWAY INSTEAD

No thank you.
Not this morning.
I stared at the bench heavied down with a cue of dirty dishes waiting to be cleaned. We packed our bags and ran away instead. We planted ourselves at a nice and airy café where we enjoyed a long breakfast and negotiated colouring pencils. After our plates were cleared, we walked down to the lake and picked at the exposed tree roots with sticks. We kicked the footy and as people appeared with their packed lunches and fold up chairs, we decided to keep on walking down to the park. We played for a long time and Pat made a friend. When the sun started to sink from the centre of the sky we readied ourselves for the walk back to the car. We were in no rush. That’s when we discovered a tree house. Pat slowly climbed his way up and sat at the top. Although I was in no hurry to leave, I called for him to come down from the tree house. We arrived home and there on the bench were the dishes which were waiting patiently.

HILLS AND SNIFFS

It's no wonder, her dimpled little hand stuck out from the side of the pram. It looked tempting from where I stood. So as we walked past it was coated in a slick of drool, painted on from the mouth of Cooper. He was big, beautiful and most importantly a gentle giant. He stuck his nose into her cavenous little cocoon inside of the pram and sniffed at her baby cologne. A mild and sweet vanillary concoction. Her hand and cheeks copped the curiosity of Cooper. She held herself well, as cool as Mona Lisa, she sat poised in her pram seat with a calm grin. We continued on our way, back up another hill.

GRIZZLY MORNINGS

4am start captured by Matty. It's the things that you do everyday which you take for granted. I will treasure this photograph forever.

LONG BRUNCH

Today I met up with a beautiful friend. I love how she always greets me with a kiss to kiss on each cheek. We had not seen each other for some months and our morning was filled with lots of excited catching up. Over coffee, eggs and banana bread we fed each other’s future plans and dreams with lots of encouragement and support. Tucked up in the corner table at a cosy little cafe we poured over some beautiful magazines, peeling over the pages while my daughter slept snugged up in the crook of my left arm.
