MORNING ROUTINE

Roll out of bed to check on baby, snuggle back into bed with Matty, read emails, catch up on Instagram and Facebook on my iphone, roll out of bed to check on my son, make a coffee, get breakfast ready, take some photographs of breakfast, eat breakfast and fiddle around on my laptop and then rouse the rest of the family to start their day.

What is yours?

MY CHOOKIES EGGS

Although it was a bit of a stop-start kind of a feast due to our babes waking and fussing, the conversation, story-telling and laughter smoothly kept us connected as we seemingly took turns in leaving the table to tend to our babes who were playing on the floor around us. The food was an inspired mish mash of my favourite local cafe foods and it was lovely to enjoy the comfort foods at home with friends.

In the Pan: Sauteed kale, mushroom, onion with crumbled fetta and fresh lemon.

Accompaniments: Fresh berries, sourdough bread, avacado, fresh ham, Green Goddess dressing from Healthy Everyday by Pete Evans, fried shallots, gooey raspberry and white chocolate muffins plus chocolate and peanut butter muffins from Oomph Cafe, fresh berries, sauteed mushrooms and freshly laid eggs from my chookies which were softly poached and my gorgeous friend introduced me to the wonderful 'Duffin', a cross between a Donut and a Muffin.

Drinks: Fresh orange juice, tea, and fresh locally ground coffee.

Music: NYC SKA/JAZZ playlist on Spotify.

DAYDREAMING

A good friend of mine was in the car with my family and I, and my son expressed that he was bored about half an hour into a one and a half hour car trip. Her beautiful response really touched me and it has really freed the way in which I have been thinking lately. She said, 'What about day dreaming? Do you do that? You can think about what you want to do later today or maybe you can visualise the things that you want to happen tomorrow or in the future'.

Have you daydreamed lately?

AFTERNOON DELIGHTS

The sunshine was cool by the time we came home from school today and we feasted on some summery fruits that we bought over the weekend. He read out his home reader as I set out the table and before I managed to bring the second cup of tea over, he was already sneaking into the cherries.

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE

It is Winter right now and the sun has been shining for days on end. I spent this particular sunny day with this gorgeous mama and her son and we basked in the warmth of the front room which was flooded with sunshine. In between the words of our conversation I could see her hazily stare at her son, you know the kind of look, the type where you know that for a split second they are transcended into another time or place and perhaps they are imagining the joys that the future is going to bring as their baby progresses through the wonder years and into adulthood. It was a perfect kind of day for daydreaming and as I left I couldn't help but feel whimsical in the warm winter sun.

SUNDAY: MY PHOTOGRAPHIC FOOD DIARY

After eating a burnt pancake for breakfast this morning, I decided to go a bit silly at the bakery. I stocked up on enough for lunch and afternoon tea, which was accompanied by a  few cups of fresh hot Honey and Calamansi Tea. Perfect food for the cold front which has left everyone in my home shivering since Friday night.

LIKE MINDS

We don't mean to but sometimes us Mum's take over small spaces. Believe me when I say that we feel equally as uncomfortable as you when our babies start to fuss or when we disrupt the flow of movement because of our strollers or travel seats, but sometimes we just need to get out of the house and enjoy the freedom and deliciousness of a freshly brewed coffee or a nice breakfast which doesn't involve us having to do the washing up afterwards. Small things like this which make everyone's day a little bit better also makes ours a little bit better too. I couldn't be any more apologetic for taking over your peace and quiet, but please understand that we are doing our best. Cafe's like this one attract members from all over the local community, not just because of the amazing food and coffee but because of the wonderful way in which everyone feels at home as soon as they step up into their cosy little space. The way in which the personalities and the people come together to enjoy their space, food and coffee often results in a chain reaction of laughter and communal small talk, the perfect ambience of casualness and joy.
